Opera for lefthanders

This page was originally written on December 2nd, 2003. At that time, I was still using Windows OS (now Ubuntu but still browsing with Opera). Content was modified on August 12th, 2009.

Problem and the solution

Some years ago I downloaded left-handed cursors to my computer (using Windows ME). In case you wonder what makes a cursor left-handed it is that the arrow leans to right and the hand pointing active content is the left one.

Changing the arrow was easy but both MSIE and Netscape refused to use the new hand pointer. Instead, they used their own default cursors which were right hands.

Fortunately, I also happened to have Opera in my computer. It was not yet my primary browser. However, as soon as I realised that it was the only one where the new link pointer actually worked I became increasingly interested in learning more about it.

Opera

Currently both Explorer and Firefox are able to use left-handed link pointers but changing Opera to them is not an option anymore.

The cursor thing is not the only issue where the Opera team has had lefthanders in their mind. The mouse gestures – one of the features that make Opera superior to the other browsers – are available both left- and right-handed.

Nevertheless, Opera is good option for righthanders, too: it is light and fast, it strictly follows the official standards. Its versatile shortcut functions make surfing the web easy and efficient. Moreover, Opera is among the most secure browsers that there are.

Get Opera yourself and you will see the difference.
